To Release the Locking Gas Spring (Fully-Extended):
Support the load. Use a block, prop, or secondary support to fully hold the panel/door/hatch in place if it is at risk of falling on its own.
Stabilize yourself. Stand to the side (not directly under the moving load). Keep fingers and toes clear of pinch points.
Locate the locking tube. With the gas spring fully extended, find the outer locking tube which is the larger OD of the two tubes.
Push the locking tube slightly toward the body. Using your palm or thumb, push the locking tube toward the gas spring body (a small movement, typically 1/8″–1/4″) so the locking sleeve clears the gas spring body.
Compress the spring slowly. While holding the locking tube pushed, gently apply downward pressure to allow the spring to compress and telescope into the locking device. Do not release suddenly.
Release and verify. Once compressed about 1” to the unlocked position, slowly release the locking tube. Verify the spring moves freely and the load remains supported.
Re-lock if required. If you need the spring locked again, extend the spring fully and allow the locking tube to snap back into engagement. If resistance or unusual noise occurs — stop and inspect. Do not force.
